We had the good fortune of connecting with Ali Patchett Emeri Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ali Patchett, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the end of our first year being able to attend formal school dances, both of us were exhausted from trying to find modest dresses that were both comfortable and affordable. We decided to start our own business with the dresses we had acquired from the previous dances and are continuously adding new dresses to our inventory.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting the business involved a lot of planning, but once we had agreed on ideas and how to run the company, we hit the ground running. The ability to use Instagram has made starting this so helpful. The biggest issue we face is the fact that we only have one of each dress. When school dances are around the corner, it can be difficult when more than one person wants the same dress. I think it’s been important to realize that as teenagers, we all ache for independence, but being able to rely on each other as both friends and partners has been incredibly helpful as we go through our last year of high school together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Mesa and Downtown Gilbert have fantasist shops and events happening. Sassys Cafe and Bakery has the best breakfast foods, and Republica Empanada has the best authentic Mexico food for lunch. Joes Farm Grill in Downtown Gilbert is always a fantastic place for dinner, and the shows at Hale theatre are always fun to visit. The Butterfly Museum and Odysea Aquarium are great activities for all ages.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to thank our family members, specifically our always supportive mothers. They have continuously cheered us on as we have worked to grow our business. Ali’s aunt, Karen Turley, owner of Pyrkiä, has been a large influence in the way the business has grown since it’s beginning.
