We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” ― Maya Angelou My team of labor and postpartum doulas educate, empower, and love birthing people through what I dare to say, is the most monumental transition of their lives. Moving from maiden to mother carries so much emotion and sometimes trauma too. For those of us that had complicated childhoods and strained relationships with our own mothers, we bring all of this into our own journeys into motherhood and that is not even talking about the actual birth and postpartum experience itself. Our only goal is for birthing people to feel heard, educated, advocated for, loved, and valued during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum transition….to minimize the incidents of birth trauma, perinatal/postpartum anxiety, and depression. A lot of times mother’s share that they have never experienced this kind of support before. Un-biased with no expectations, ego, or hidden agendas. We are all nurturers at heart and whole heartedly believe in the work we do. Guiding families to ask questions, advocate for themselves and their babies as they are the consumer, to remind them that they deserve personalized, evidenced based care from their providers and chosen birth places, to help them tune into their intuitions, and to remind them of how incredibly powerful they already are. We believe well mothers change the world. 75% of our inquiries are from repeat clients, direct referrals from previous clients or providers in our birth community. I believe the success behind Cherry Blossom Doula Services is simple. We treat others the way we want to be treated.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am what you would call an accidental entrepreneur. Owning my own business, marrying my passion of supporting moms with a way to not only provide for my family but for other families on my team was never a possibility I would have ever considered. Thankfully, I had others around me that saw my potential before I really started to step into my own. Being willing to hustle and believing that when you are aligned with your life’s work, opportunities fall into place with ease. I’ve had plenty of self-doubt but every time I’ve taken a leap of faith, stepped out of my comfort zone, it has always provided in abundance. What I am most excited for is that with the growth of my team, will provide space to work on mentorship opportunities, connecting new doulas needing to gain experience with families struggling with financial hardships.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sedona is my favorite place to be in Arizona. Being able to leave the valley and get lost in nature is my very favorite thing to do! Enjoying a glass of wine at Page Springs Cellars on the way… Hiking along the streams, getting lost in books. Journaling with my feet in the water. Enjoying a delicious meal at Mariposa with the best view! This would be my perfect weekend getaway. 🙂
