Meet Amy Hernandez | Herbalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
About three years ago I started my wellness tea company on the bases of using natural ingredients to help my friends and family with certain ailments. This idea grew from teas to small accessories to creating hands on tea classes and teaching the benefits of the herbs. Over the last year as more companies started to create tea lines ,we had a small period of time where we wanted to give up. We attended craft shows were we barely made our money back or sometimes even lost money. The idea and premis I didn’t went to go away from but there needed to be a change to set us apart from other businesses. In 2022 we changed our logo, moved all the teas to a horror movie theme and moved our efforts to shows that are supportive of all things spooky. We went through the whole wellness line and matched them up with movie themes. My husband has been the biggest driving force to keep me going and not loose sight of why I started the business in the first place. The most rewarding part is when someone comes to a show and is excited to see their favorite movie characters on a bag of tea but are super knowledgeable about both. Although it’s work ,the rebranding has made it fun again and being able to share our organic teas with everyone has made it very rewarding.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We specialize in organic loose leaf teas based on scary movies. We currently have 33 unique blends from traditional teas to herbal wellness blends. In addition to the teas we created tea steepers and fun dream pillows to match our tea themes. We strive to have something for everyone within our business.. What sets us apart from others is that we keep the original idea of keeping our products organic , no additives or artificial flavoring . I think the biggest lesson I have learned as a new business owner is to always stay true to yourself and what you are trying to put out into this world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For Arizona I would stir them to Terror Trader which is an awesome spooky store in Chandler AZ. They have horror themed merchandise and have vendor events monthly to give small spooky businesses the opportunity to showcase their work and sell.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For me this would be my husband. When I first came up with the business plan although he didn’t know much about tea and I was just learning myself. As I started booking shows he would help me try and sell , learned all he could and has been a great person to have with me during this time. When I wanted to give up we really had a heart to heart talk and started coming up with different ideas that could turn the business around. We together came up with this new concept and to his credit he has come up with a lot of the tea blend/movie combinations. This year we have grown the business together and he helps in any aspect that he can.
