We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Early on, I made a decision to dedicate myself, daily, to my overall goals. I decided to do something business related, every day. This habit has been playing the biggest part in my growth. I have now started laying out goals for the year and will break them down into months. This helps me with direction and focus and if overwhelm creeps in, I remember that if I am actively doing one thing a day, I am on the right track. This action, over time, leads to consistency which is huge in developing my skill. A mentor I recently found, Bonnie Christine, teaches this.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I’ve started a collection inspired by the way my four year old daughter perceives the world around her with wonder, enthusiasm and intrigue. Her peaceful perspective gives me a sense of hope in trying times. This idea will be expressed through a fine art collection as well as a coordinating digital surface pattern collection. In addition to fine art, I offer art prints as well as products adorned with my art and surface patterns such as: curtains, wallpaper, and gift wrap! This fall, I will be at the CareFree Fine Art and Wine Festival November 6-8th, In the meantime, you can find my art touring various Pita Jungle locations in the valley – right now, my art is on display at the Ahwatukee location! And some fun news, I will be graduating from Phoenix College with an Associate in Graphic Design this fall! Woo Hoo!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to Fossil Springs to swim for the day. We could enjoy sliding off the top of the waterfall and plunging into the crystal clear spring water below. I’d also like to take her up to Sedona and go on a few hikes through the stunning red rock. We could have lunch in town, and look at all the beautiful crystals and polished rocks for sale – I’m such a sucker for those! In our down time, we could enjoy some Sushi at Kawaii and do some local hikes around Phoenix. Of course, I’d take her to get a picture by the iconic Saguaro Cacti before she left.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, my husband plays the biggest role in this journey. He has encouraged and supported me from day one, and he gives me the extra push and accountability when I need it. I always go to him to discuss business decisions because he’s my partner in every way! Secondly, my daughter is a huge inspiration for me. She’s a big reason I have pursued this path and being able to be at home with her while I go after what lights me up is truly a gift. She’s my number one fan and creating art with her by my side is the BEST! My design mentor is Bonnie Christine. She is a surface pattern designer with a wonderful, encouraging, and nurturing teaching style. She is so generous in her approach. I went through her Immersion program and I have grown in many ways because of it. I also enjoy listening to Cathy Heller’s podcast, “Don’t Keep Your Day Job.” It is tremendously inspiring. It’s about creative entrepreneurship and diving deep into what could be holding you back and how to break through those barriers. I highly recommend it!
