We had the good fortune of connecting with Aurelia Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aurelia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Community need, in a sense. Arizona Lowrider culture didn’t have a very big platform form women, even though there are many women who are involved and own beautiful rides.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Building Lowriders is a form of art. Self expression through intricate designs that can be seen in every detail of the car, tells a story that was written by the owner. From the color of the interior to the pinstriped details on the hood, it is written with with care, consideration and patience.
I am also a lash artist, and have been for years. Creating what I call “custom~eyes” for my clients. To enhance the beauty of one’s most unique feature is an honor and privilege that I do not take lightly.
I am also proud to say that I will be creating body art sooner rather than later. Tattoos have always been so beautiful to me, and drawing has been my go to for therapy, therefore it was a natural choice for me to pursue. Although I’m just beginning I know, without a doubt, that I am going to be great!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take a little trip up from the desert to the beautiful Grand Canyon, There is a train that provides a scenic route, with food drinks and entertainment
While up north I’d stop at a restaurant call Josephine’s in Flagstaff for the best food and my favorite wine (Quilt).
On the way back to the city I would take the scenic route down Oak Creek Canyon. Take a Pink Jeep tour around Sedona.
Once we return to the city life I’d start with a trip to Cataleyas Nail Salon and Boutique in Downtown Phoenix to get our nails and toes done. We gotta look and feel top notch for the weekend!
You know we are going to cruise to a local car show in my 1964 Chevy Impala. Enjoying the day with community while supporting mom and pop vendors of all sorts. Followed by a cruise in downtown Glendale.
Sunday you would definitely catch us watching an Arizona Cardinals game live at the Stadium, and heading to WestGate for the after party.
Mondays are for rest so you might find us in Oldtown Scottsdale getting a Thai Massage.
Tuesdays are for tacos so Taco Boys here we come!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, would be my parents, as they introduced lowriding to me as a toddler. Cruising Central in their 63 Riviera was family time and also Father/Daughter time. Working on cars with my father growing up created a sense of pride and excitement. It developed a love for cars, specifically Lowriders, in me that would never fade.
Second, our club, which is made up of 6 female Lowrider owners. Not only do they own and operate and maintain their rides, they actively are involved in community development and outreach. Surpassing the odds that have been stacked against them they continue to thrive in a world that is predominantly male driven. Our VP Danae Chavira is the backbone of our club, keeping us all on our toes, organizing and executing our ideas and our goals. Although we are a well oiled machine, working together to build a space for women in our community, she is the power button that gets us rolling.
My daughter Inez has been a source of strength and motivation. Watching and helping her build her own Lowrider with pride and honor, despite the challenges and setbacks she has faced , has been one of my greatest forms of motivation.
Las but not least, Our community, they have welcomed us with open arms, open hearts and have continued to support us in our journey to make sure that women have a place to celebrate our culture and each other. Without them, we’d just be some chicks in Lowriders.
