We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobbie Modica and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobbie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew a generic 9-5 job wasn’t for me. Growing up with a chaotic schedule, I flourished most while doing things my own way to make sense out of the busy life I led. When it came time to pick out careers & talk about dreams, my wants & ideas were always outlandish. First I wanted to go to the moon, then I wanted to be an Olympic athlete.

When my body failed & sports stopped being fun, I turned my attention to photography. Picking up the camera felt kind of like kismet. I learned & took on free shoots, I hustled & worked my tail off. All the while, I never hated putting forth the effort or getting up early for jobs. I found happiness in each moment I got to stand behind the camera. After searching for a long time to find something that brought me peace, I found it.

To finally answer the question, my thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from those moments of happiness & my desire to always find them. I’d rather bust my butt on a sweaty July afternoon shooting a wedding than decay behind a desk. That’s honorable… just not for me!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe everyone has a struggle story to recall when it comes to starting their brand & business. Mine isn’t monumental or that different than others; I wanted something so I put everything into it & am now finally seeing some greatness born from all the effort. I believe what sets me apart from others is my desire to capture the whole story. People who come to be in front of my camera are those who want memories captured by someone who’s interested in making a lasting connection. My clients aren’t just another gig or another family that happened to book me. They’re small pieces of my own family & I love that about the sort of community I’ve cultivated & nursed over the last 5 years of being in business.

Now that I’m in Arizona, I’m really looking forward to making the beautiful desert a part of my brand. Last year, after moving from San Antonio, Texas, my only objective was to build back up & survive. Now that I’m here standing on the other side of that goal, I’m most excited to branch out & really find where I belong in Arizona’s photography community.

Mostly, I want the world to know that this is my dream & I get the luxury of living that out each & every day. I want everyone to know that anyone is welcome in front of my camera, no matter your age, gender, race, or sexuality. I want others to be excited & aware of the potential photo shoots & photographers can have in creating core memories with friends, family members, & other loved ones. Really, I want the world to remember photos are forever. If you ever want to have memories preserved while having a blast doing it, me, my work, & my business are always a safe space to do so!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, this is an exciting one. Here’s what a day out with one of my buds would look like!!

5AM hike to Hole in the Rock at Papago Park to catch the sunrise.
7AM coffee & donut at Bosa Donuts
9AM dip in the pool to cool back down.
From about 10-2 we’re hitting up the OdySea Aquarium to soak up the seahorses & penguins.
3-4:30PM a late lunch at Portillos with the crew
5-7PM IMAX movie time!
8-10PM is the perfect time to hit up Downtown Scottsdale for dinner, shopping, and desert.

Our week would continue like that while supplementing different local restaurants & gorgeous mountains to hike like the Superstitions in Apache Junction!

I believe so much of Phoenix & the surrounding area has really great charm. It’s naturally beautiful & packed to the brim with so many different things to do. Whether you like outdoor adventures or something more cool, Phoenix & areas around have the perfect thing for you!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to send a shoutout to my family! Like most people in this world. I wouldn’t be anywhere without them. I’ve got supportive parents who bought me my first camera & let me take off running with nothing but a dream & lots of heart. My husband, who’s supported me from day one. If I’m the heart & soul of this business, he’s the stability & backbone. Of course, I can’t do any of this without my clients & friends. Without y’all trusting me with your moments & memories, this business wouldn’t be half of what it is today!
