We had the good fortune of connecting with Celeste Bonilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celeste, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I never thought I would be a business owner. After doing hair for five years, I decided to take the plunge and go off on my own. It was scary, but it was the best decision I ever made. I opened up my business in 2022. At first, I started out in a smaller suite, by myself. I loved it. But, I quickly realized I was out growing my space. Within the next year, I expanded into a bigger suite where I can now have others work with me. I wanted to start my own business to better connect with my clients. I love having that one on one experience with them and they appreciate it as well. I can make my own hours, decorate my space however I want, and I get to be my own boss. I am always looking for new ways to expand and better my business, not just for me but for my clients as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a hairstylist of seven years. I specialize in blondes, balayage, and extensions. But, I can pretty much do it all!
What makes me stand out is that my clients see me as more than just a hairstylist. I offer more of a personable experience. I connect with my clients on a deeper level and create a bond with them. My chair doesn’t feel like any normal chair and my clients can trust me. I like to say my second job is a therapist. My attention to detail and perfectionism also sets me apart from others as well. I am most proud of how fast I built up my clientele and I am excited for my future plans with my business.
A lesson I learned along the way, would be that I am not the hairstylist for everyone. As much as I wish I was, I cannot make every single person happy no matter how hard I try. I want the world to know me not just for my business, but for me as a person. I am not in this business for the profit or to be famous, I do this because it’s what I love to do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting in town I would definitely take them to one of my favorite places to eat, Postino! If it’s hot outside, I would love to take them to my favorite dine-in theater, RoadHouse Cinemas, and then shopping in Scottsdale. If the weather is cooler, I would probably recommend hiking and traveling up to Sedona. I love trying new coffee shops, so I would find a new place to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and hang out! One of my favorite coffee shops is “The Coffee Shop” in Gilbert.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would LOVE to dedicate this shoutout firstly, to my mom. She is a business owner herself and she is truly inspiring. She has been with me through every step of creating my own success and she is my biggest cheerleader. Secondly, to the first salon I worked at for giving me all of my education and pushing me to be the stylist I am today. Thirdly, to my wonderful husband, Marcus, who has never doubted me. He’s listened to all of my ideas and he was the one who pushed me to finally create my own business.
Lastly, to my wonderful and amazing clients. I wouldn’t have my business or be as successful as I am without all of you. I am so grateful and appreciative for each and every one of you who sits in my chair!
