We had the good fortune of connecting with Cole Mitchek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cole, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’ve struggled to maintain a consistent work life balance especially since becoming a dad 5 years ago. I mostly make money by working remotely as a video editor and filming concerts. There’s no set schedule for either of those gigs. But I’ve learned to make that schedule for myself and to make sure to get a good amount of sleep so that I’m well rested for the next day. That way I can be fully present with my wife and kid, then when it’s time to work or do creative projects I can be fully present for those things too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve worked for years with my project ‘smallsongs’ as I travelled through the states and different countries filming documentary style live sessions. I’ve very recently transitioned my focus towards more personal and creative films as a director. These projects are being shared under my new project titled ‘EAR FiLM.’ I’m most excited about my upcoming short film called ‘MiSTER DOPAMiNE’ which centers around a married couple having a pivotal conversation. The film explores the different directions their relationship can go through how they respond to each other. So we get to watch them have the same conversation in three different ways. It’s a very dialogue heavy film, so I’m excited to do go through a longer than usual rehearsal process with the actors. In the future I don’t want to limit myself or box myself in by creating rules for what I should or shouldn’t be making. I’ll just move forward intuitively from one movie or art form to the next.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve lived in Paris, France for about a year and a half now and have only fallen more in love with this city. It was always a dream for me to live here, so it still feels unreal that I get to step outside in to these streets each day. There are lots of hidden gems and free museums to check out within Paris like “Maison de Victor Hugo” or “Musée Carnavalet” or “Musée Cognacq-Jay.” We’d spend some time wandering through the neighborhoods like Montmartre or Le Quartier Latin or Le Marais or Buttes-aux-Cailles and we’d definitely sit outside at a café or sit alongside the Seine to take in this historical city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my good friend and talented musician Alessandro Sgobbio. I worked on various projects with him mostly filming him doing his craft. He’s been an inspiration and mentor to me as an artist here in Paris and I love his music. Here’s his website: https://www.alessandrosgobbio.it
