We had the good fortune of connecting with Doria Dphrepaulezz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Doria, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Someday, somewhere – anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.” Pablo Neruda. Poetry is one of the most intimate modes of expression, and I love Neruda. I am a painter and a poet. , Art is not just what I do it is profoundly who I am. No matter what road I choose to travel, I always try to maintain a balance of creativity because it is the fire that fuels my life. This quote keeps me connected to the world. I remind myself every single day that happiness is the best pathway forward. No matter what obstacles I face. I always remember, and hold close to my heart, the fundamental belief that my faith grounds me. The quest for a better and happier tomorrow is priceless. We should be brave, and life should be lived.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The greatest lesson of any creative adventure is to never give up. No moment has taught me how precious life, gratitude, and happiness are like the Covid19 crisis. We are in a moment where it is necessary to think a little more profoundly. To believe in the magic that we make. To put a splash of color on the grey landscape. As an artist, I already spend a lot of time overdramatizing. By nature, I seek to feel more so that I can create every day. I see, I listen, and I hear in a singular way. Adversity simply magnifies my natural artistic instincts. So, after the fear and anxiety pass, I smile and I create. Art is a living and breathing piece of a moment in time. I paint and I write with the intensity and desire to share my stories. Abstract art is its own language. Paint and poetry are intimately entangled, and they are my language. I often write in Italian to give rhythm to my abstract ideas. That flow, then transforms inside the colors as I paint. A poetic adventure of textures and shades. My art is an intimate expression of who and what I am experiencing in the moment. Vibrant hues and subtle shades dance across the canvas. My faith and motherhood keep me grounded. I try tirelessly, to always see the brightest light.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Scottsdale. In another moment I would include all of Arizona, but for now, I would stay in town. When my bestie comes into town it is all about spending quality time together and relaxing. For the best spiritual quiet time, there is no place like the Franciscan Renewal Center. Pomo Pizzeria is my favorite place for every day, the food is exquisite, and the Gelato at Luna is incredible. Flemings has the best steak in town. And nothing beats, sipping a glass of wine and savoring a beautiful desert sunset at the Andaz Scottsdale. A visit to The Phoenix Art Museum for a good dose of art. Then the MIM is not to be missed.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My life has been an incredible journey and so many phenomenal mentors accompanied me. The past few years have been a true test of forgiving and moving on, and my dearest friend S, has keep me grounded and I am so very grateful to her.
