We had the good fortune of connecting with Emina Omeragic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emina, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Hm, what makes me happy? Id like to think I make a choice to be happy everyday but in regards to photography I absolutely adore making people feel good about themselves, telling their story through photos and knowing that they will be looking back on these photos/memories for year and generations to come. Getting replied after delivering albums of how much they love their photos and how great they feel afterwards makes me do what I am doing. I am a photographer/story teller.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This question was a hard one there was a drop down menu where I could chose between being a business, a professional, an employee, or an artist. I chose business and ill tell you why. For those of you who dont know being a small business owner and specifically for this example a photographer. You assume all you’re going to be doing is taking photos. “This will be easy” I thought. False news. Being a small business owner means that you are in charge of taxes and accounting, project management, customer support, technical support, etc. I would say about 20% of my business is actually getting to take photos which is mind blowing to me. Thats why I chose business instead of creative. I do art and I am an artist but I am in business as an artist. What sets me apart? Hands down my personality and who I am. No one is like me and I am willing to bet alot of money on that one. I am extremely hard working and personable. I gain energy from being around people and thats why I love shooting. The hour spent with me I guarantee you will be smiling and laughing genuinely. Not only am I fun to be around but I still keep think professional to a degree. I am communicative and “on the ball” if you will. I guess you and say that I am type A. What am I most proud of? The place I am now in photography. I feel like a true master of my craft. Many years ago I didn’t get why my photos didn’t look the same as some of my peers but I soon realized why not and how to fix it and I would say now I absolutely am swooning over all of my own sessions. I am who I originally inspired to be and I am very proud of that because It was not easy folks. What do you want the world to know about my brand/ my story? I work hard and I will work hard for you and your photos not to mention the experience I bring to the table from you. Its not just photos but a friendship you and I create. I want to make YOUR vision come to life for your photos.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, being that I grew up here this is an easy one for me. Keep in mind I am in my mid-twenties. If my friends came into town I would suggest doing a fun little stay-cation at the Scott resort followed by a great dinner at Atlas (kind of pricey – but extremely gourmet) that would be followed by a night bar hoping in old town. Maya Day and night club is my favorite. They have life-sized games like beer pong, connect 4, corn hole, etc. The next day I would suggest going restaurant hoping in old town. You can shop around, get some exercise and try amazing foods and drinks. Some of my favorite places include Montauk, Gesha Go Go, Diego Pops, and Farm and Craft! Top golf is another fun activity and go is gallivanting in old town Gilbert.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, this is a great one. I dont believe I would be here in the place that I am with the success that I have seen without friends and family who have been with me since day one. You know who you are. Obviously when I first picked up a camera I was not great so thank you to all of my past clients who are still with me today and have seen my progression in the last 6+ years. Lastly I also think the entire creative community here in Phoenix deserves a shout out. I have met such wonderful people who are in this creative world that give me hope, inspiration and all around partnership. Without them I wouldn’t be here either. You are all amazing and I appreciate and cherish all of you. T H A N K Y O U.
