We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Mazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Being an entrepreneur, your work life balance is always a little skewed. You have to set and define boundaries as to where work ends and your private life begins. In the beginning it is really difficult to set that boundary because you are trying to build and grow, so you tend to put yourself and relationships on the back burner. The problem with that is that your work life balance is what actually helps you to succeed. When you set a schedule and stick to it, it allows you to have a more healthy outlook on your business but also your personal life, your health, and your emotional state. Over the years, that balance has definitely become more a priority to me after getting sick in my early years, I had to make a change to prioritize my health. Your foundation starts at home. Your health, your relationships and your family must be in order for you to be able to keep your business in order.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the owner of two businesses, Pilates Tempe and Destination Fitcations, I took my passion for fitness and melded it with my love for travel. Pilates Tempe has been in Tempe since 2008. In 2019, I took over as owner as well as hosting my first fitness vacation. Pilates Tempe is a Pilates and fitness studio where we have over 60 classes per week, 7 days a week and offer private and personal training, and stretch therapy. We have reformer classes, TRX, weight training, yoga, mat Pilates, stretch classes and online classes.

Destination Fitcations is a worry-free, stress-free, all-inclusive luxurious vacation for travelers who love to stay active. Destination Fitcations allows the opportunity for clients to experience the comfort of an all-planned out, and an unforgettable pampered trip to exotic places where one can go and recharge, return home and not feel the need for another vacation after the vacation.

What sets me apart from others is that my goal is to incorporate health and wellness into all aspects of life. There are no absolutes and I want people to know that you can have fun, enjoy life and be healthy without being completely restrictive. I am most excited about growing my business and helping people love and enjoy their life. Life has been difficult these last few years and I want us to move forward to a healthier happier life.

Getting to where I am today has taken a lot of perseverance. It has NOT been easy. I don’t know that growth is ever easy but having to be a self starter makes it a little more difficult. There are times you want to give up are aren’t sure you are making the right decision, or you the decision you made didn’t work out, but you learn, you grow, you move on. You have to keep trying and not let little failures discourage you. Everyone has failures and that is okay! We have to fail in order to learn what doesn’t work or what can work better. I have learned that you may think you aren’t making an impact, but people are watching and cheering you on. They don’t want to see you fail, so keep going.

I want the world to know that living a healthy and happy life is possible. We are all human and need to allow ourselves to be so. We can all learn from each other, encourage each other, and grow together to be the best versions we can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I would hope they came during spring training! It’s my favorite time of year. Going to a spring training game is a to of fun and the best way to enjoy the weather. I always love the Botanical Gardens, any time of year, whether its spring in bloom, the Chihuly at night, or the Luminarias during the holidays. A short trip up to Sedona is always fun for hiking, shopping, and dining, and a few breweries cute coffee shops. Staying in town, there are some great breweries and restaurants on Roosevelt downtown. Pizzeria Bianco, The Gladly, Buck & Rider, are all great, but my favorite restaurant is a little Thai joint called Glai Baan. It is a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends, clients, and number one fans Steve and Felecia Rozansky of Friendly Auto Centers have been not only huge supporters, but encourage me every step of the way. There are so many people that have been a part of my journey, and I could name every one of my clients who have all been unbelievable and some with me since the very beginning. Over the years I have always leaned on coaches, mentors, and friends. I have learned so much from all of them and would not be where I am without them.
