We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Reese’s Dog Treats was created when I brought home puppy Reese in early 2020 and she became an instant part of my family. With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping the entire world on lock-down, I could not have planned a better time to bring a puppy into my life. Reese is an energetic mini Golden-doodle, but most importantly Reese is a special family member who I want only the utmost for, delicious treats included!
Luckily for Reese, I love to bake! I am constantly baking cookies and other yummy treats for my friends and family, so I figured my deserving puppy should also be able to indulge. I searched high and wide on the internet and discovered several different dog biscuits recipes that I thought would be simplest to bake. After just a few trial and errors in my kitchen, I was able to come up with the perfect recipe! It combines the nutritional ingredients that I wanted for my dog with the aesthetic appearance that would make for great photos and gift giving. My dog treat recipe has been taste tested by Reese and her finicky friends, so I just know any deserving dog will not be disappointed!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am from San Diego, CA but was brought to Arizona through my acceptance to Arizona State University. I graduated from ASU with BS in Biomedical Engineering.
Although not directly correlated, I strongly believe my experience at ASU aided me in starting my business. From research and development skills, knowledge of FDA requirements, and utilization of a 3D printer for custom dog treats cutters, my previous education has certainly helped!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One place I love to shop is The Merchantile in Old Town Scottsdale. They are an indoor market who works with local businesses, talented creators, and merchants, including Reese’s Dog Treats! I also love that they a dog friendly.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanted to thank my husband, Michael, for the tremendous support in letting me explore my passion for baking treats and spoiling our little puppy. The extra help with washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, the assistance with driving me to the post office and store, and the patience with me and my endeavor certainly did not go unnoticed!
