We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Devine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
To me, giving up is never an option. Personally, i’m super hard on myself and in the past, i used to breakdown over silly mistakes. But it’s those silly mistakes that make you reflect back and determine what could’ve done better. From there, apply it better next time.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is the my eye for details. Especially when it comes to blondes or hair extensions, i try to tune up my detail knob to over 100.
What got me where i am today would honestly be social media. Social media is a tool that can be utilized to help grow your business. For example, making a reel that’s fun and exciting for people to watch! They are able to see your work in a fun way and possibly give you a follow to see more!
Becoming an independent stylist definitely was scary especially being a new hairstylist. There was definitely some learning curves and there still are to this day but i wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Challenges of being an independent stylist can be hard but if i were to give advice to anyone suffering those challenges i’d say just keep going. You can’t let the fear of it failing affect how you run your business.
I’ve learned how to manage money better, manage product stock, as well as sticking true to me and my word. It’s me against the world and if i’m not happy with how i run my business, to me i’m failing.
What i want people to know about me and my work is that i’m extremely hardworking and i truly love what i do. Everyday i come to work with a big smile on my face ready for my next hair extension install or color transformation. My main motivation is my clients walking out the door, loving themselves even more than when they came in. I’ve had clients tell me “Thank you for making me beautiful” and my response ALWAYS is “i don’t create beauty, i enhance it”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Zupas cafe would definitely be our first lunch spot no doubt! The best honey bacon club and tomato basil soup known to man kind.
I would most definitely say paddle boarding at Saguaro lake. I love me a god body of water and unfortunately good ole Arizona doesn’t have a beach so a lake will do. Me and my friends will rent paddle boards and go hangout there all day! If i had my own boat i would definitely say to take that on a spin but one day!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a big shoutout to SO32 Salon for helping me get where i am today. They are an amazing group of ladies that are really supportive and i couldn’t do it without them.
