We had the good fortune of connecting with K. C. Kanaan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi K. C., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Like many seniors across the nation, my own parents lost their ability to drive themselves due to medical challenges. My siblings and I struggled to find suitable services to help our own parents stay independent, healthy and socially active. None of the existing services, like Uber, Lyft, taxis or volunteer services were designed to help people who needed more than just a ride from Point A to Point B, so we decided to create a company to help people like our own parents.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more and what sets you apart from others?
Envoy America provides “Home Care Services Outside The Home” to Seniors and the Infirm to help them stay independent, healthy and socially active. The company’s Driver Companions provide transportation services that are always coupled with assistance and companionship, similar to what a son or daughter would do to help their elderly mom, dad or loved one.
Our company has been on a mission since 2015 to assist Seniors and the Infirm go to their medical appointments, shopping, social activities and religious services. We combine technology, operational expertise and new thinking to accomplish this mission.
What sets our business apart from others is how we are focused 100% on our hedgehog concept. Our entire team knows what our company can be the best at in our industry, the 1 metric that has the largest financial impact on us and what we are passionate about. I am the most proud of how our team has been able to grow the company while we are going thru this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic due to the simple fact that we are all focused 100% on our hedgehog concept.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were visiting from out of town, I would take them to: Hike both McDowell Mountain and Pinnacle Peak Mountain. These two trails are some of the best places in the valley …. great views, excellent workout, interesting vegetations, really interesting desert animals. I would inclusea day trip to Sedona for lunch and sightseeing. We will include either lunch or dinner at Tee Pees in Phoenix followed by a walk in Kierland and Scottsdale Corner then lunch or dinner at the original PF Changs. You will find interesting dishes at this PF Chang location because that how they try new dishes before they introduce it to the rest of their restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize 5 people that have played and continue to play a key part in my life: My uncle and mentor, Dr. Kanaan, has taught me to be persistence, patient and kind to people. My dad, Mr. Pitto, has taught me to always work hard, to always be prepared and to always do the right thing when it comes to people. The 3 leaders in our company – Hania, Monica and Toria – have taught me that, with team work and trust in each other, you can always find a way to get things done. Having the right attitude and positive outlook is all that matters.
