We had the good fortune of connecting with KALPANA POLIREDDI and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KALPANA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From my childhood, I’ve always loved to unleash my inner creativity into all types of arts. Particularly, I took interest in applying henna to my friends and family. Because of all the positive reviews from my peers and encouragement from my family, I turned that hobby into something bigger. Even though I was an engineering graduate from a reputed university, I preferred to choose henna art work due my artistic mind. The thought of diverting my passion into a career and at the same time, seeing the joy on people’s faces after I did my henna work is what drove me to start my own business. I am loving what I am doing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a self-taught henna artist. I started doing henna as a hobby around 10 years ago. Soon that hobby became a passionate career. A plethora of previous clients sincerely appreciated my exceptional skills. I use organic henna powder, safety is my first priority and prepare every cone with love. Also, I provide specific after-care instructions to my beloved clients to guarantee the darkest henna stains.
My specialization includes customizing the design according to my client’s requirements. I take every bridal design as a challenge and try to give the best experience to my customers.
Starting a business professionally is not an easy task, initially faced challenges in marketing and gradually started getting orders through previous client referrals and social media. I overcame such challenges with my quality work.
The lesson I have learned is that nothing could beat hard work and the quality of the work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most areas in Arizona are beautiful in their own ways: Flagstaff has snow, Sedona has breathtaking views of nature, and we also have the iconic Grand Canyon! My favorite spot would be Lake Pleasant, though!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my team and my family for supporting my journey as an entrepreneur.
