We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina and Troy Dillon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katrina and Troy, what’s your definition for success?
Success to us is seeing the fruits of our labor and knowing our hard work has paid off. Most of the business we get is through word of mouth references and return customer loyalty. It tells us we’re doing something right.
What should our readers know about your business?
Prom’yse.art.poetry.apparel is a business we formed by combining our visual and written art talents. We offer a variety of thing body art, such as piercings and tattoos, canvas/metal art, reading books and customizable clothing, trinkets and party favors. We like to say we do it all. A one stop shop, different from other brands around us. Things were most excited about right now is that, currently Katrina is enrolled as a student at Cornell University, for woman’s entrepreneurship and looks forward to completing the program this summer. She also just recently wrote her second book Love Sex Poetry, available on Amazon.com.
Troy has generated more new and repeat clients and will also be adding digital art to his resume.
Through a ton of research and even more trial and error we were able to build a brand. It wasn’t easy but the journey was well worth it. The biggest thing is to not give up on the dream. Being a husband and wife team we have each other’s backs. We lean on each other. That’s the biggest thing we learned, that it is ok to lean on each other for help, and understanding. The same way we do our marriage.
We want the world to know we pride ourelves on being a black owned business and that we have great customer service. We here customize your life and give you some really great reads along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would probably take them to Poetic Soul open mike poetry to hear music and poetry at Club Central. We would also checkout the BOOM BOOOM ROOM a new bar in Phoenix. For breakfast and/or brunch we would do Brunch ish or Breakfast Bitch because they’re both upbeat places with great food. We like to cook at home a lot so we would probably do a few dinners at our house and play some card games. We’d make drinks as well. We like to hang with other creatives and business owners. We have fun wherever the vibe is good along with good music, great food and even better drinks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We absolutely could not do any of this without the love and support of our clients! Most of them have become more like family to us. A special shout out goes to the late great author and our close friend Shani Cleveland; known to us by her pen name, Mya Brooks. She was a great influence to the writing side of things and a great support to our brand.
All of our family and friends who always like, share, and shop with us.
Big thank you to Ireya Thomas for allowing us to be a part of the AZ Black Business Expo which also allows us to showcase our brand and network woth other businesses.
