Meet Kristin Tetlow | Pilates Instructor & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Tetlow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

After years and years of working for various fitness and health-related companies, I found myself struggling to find a company that matched my vision for my heath as well as the health of my clients. I decided to start my own business where I could design an approach built upon my three pillars of health, happiness, and safety.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Health and wellness are my passion.  I have a small Pilates studio in North Mesa where I currently offer one-on-one customized Pilates training.  Some exciting things are happening though, I’m expanding my studio and will be purchasing more equipment and offering duets in addition to private sessions this fall.

I think one of the biggest things that sets my business apart from other pilates studios is that I also have a background in nutrition, personal training, group fitness, and fascial stretch therapy which I am able to combine with my pilates knowledge to design very individualized programs. I want to meet my clients where they are at and safely offer them guidance, training, and encouragement to continue taking steps towards where they want to be. I am always excited to watch my clients grow stronger physically, do things they never thought they could, and report less pain. Their progress in combination with my ever-growing passion for pilates is what I am most proud of.

I overcame many challenges of timing and self-doubt while creating this business, while I also was a stay at home mom to 4 kids. I want others to be able to look at my story and see that even if you are starting later in life, or even if you have a primary occupation that demands a lot of attention- like being a mother or father, your dreams still matter and they are still worth chasing. It took me 40 years to get around to chasing mine, and I am so grateful I did and hope to serve as an example to others who may be afraid to take that jump.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an Arizona Native and am always happy and excited to show visitors the beauty of the desert we live in. Due to the heat, sometimes we do have to get a little creative here in the valley but I would absolutely include an early morning hike, a breakfast at Sunnyside Breakfast Lounge (my favorite breakfast spot), a visit to Saguaro Lake or Roosevelt Lake (a family favorite activity), and a nice dinner in one of the local downtowns (there are so many nice restaurants in downtown Scottsdale, Gilbert, and Phoenix that I love, and I always like to try new places with friends).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so thankful to the widespread support I have received from friends, family, and clients throughout the many years of creating and developing my business. I have depended on others and the confidence and love they have offered for so many of the hard steps that led me to where I am today. To the ones who have been there through the ups and downs and pushed me to keep trying even when it was hard and scary, thank you form the bottom of my heart.
