We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business is that people deserved a place to feel understood and cared for. myth salon is holistic in its approach to hair care, and people care. I dive into scalp health, personal routine, and stressors that the client has in order to assess the hair and provide the service that each client needs. I use only plant based products for coloring and styling. I believe when our hair is healthy our spirit is happy. I want everyone to leave myth feeling rejuvenated and more like themselves than when they walked in.

What should our readers know about your business?
I know what makes my practice so special is that my heart is in it. I entered this world, the hair world, because I knew on a deep rooted level that it was a way I could make people feel good.

Has the road been easy?
No. In 10 years of building my business I’ve had two children, my mother passed away, and I got divorced.

My business has still found a way to flourish.

I owe that to my never ending need to make women feel good. The most powerful thing you can do is give someone a piece of their confidence back, and it has paid off.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love when my out of state friends visit Phoenix ! I always have to make sure I take them to my favorite local spots. Cha Cha’s tea lounge to catch up!
Gallo Blanco for the best margaritas and guacamole.
Bones Bodega to check out local art and get killer coffee.
and Gracies for a dive bar experience, and tots duh!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m personally thankful to the incredible women in my life who have supported me and myths evolution. Women like Alejandra Martinez of Abloom Salon, from whom I spent 4 years learning from. She taught me about the organic approach to hair and scalp care. My clients credit me often for “saving their hair” but really it’s them who saves me in more ways than one. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to serve the community of women I serve. As much as I nourish them, they nourish me right back.
