We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Faulkner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love the fact that this company started very organically. We didn’t see a need in the market or an easy way to make money. My business partner, Jacob Raymo, and I started this company out of my garage because we truly love the craft and enjoy hanging out together. We still keep that front of mind today. Do what you love and surround yourself with people you enjoy being around. I feel like our culture at Public House Creative shines through in the products and services we offer and is what sets us apart from other companies.
What should our readers know about your business?
Public House Creative is a custom cabinet shop in Phoenix, Arizona. What sets us a part is not anything crazy. We do what we say we are going to do, when we say we are going to do it. We admit when we are wrong or make a mistake. We don’t have many mistakes but when we do, we feel like how we handle our mistakes is what sets us a part. Our mission is to give our customers a clear and straightforward path to receive their products right the first time and delivered on time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona is an incredible, diverse place that I feel sometimes we take for granted. We are two hours from beautiful pines in northern Arizona. I love to camp and fish with my family up near Happy Jack, Arizona. Flagstaff Arizona also has some great skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Downtown Phoenix has grow so much in the last 10 years. My ideal night out in Phoenix would include The Rokerij for dinner then Thunderbird Lounge for drinks. A couple of my other favorite spots for food and drink in Phoenix include Pomelo and the Skydeck on the roof of The Clarendon hotel. I also enjoy live music at The Van Buren, Crescent Ballroom and The Rebel Lounge.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have contributed my success. First off my family. My parents instilled key core values at an early age in me that are the foundation to any success I have had in my life. My wife, Lindsey Faulkner and kids for giving me the opportunity to create and cultivate this company. I know it isn’t easy and they work just as hard as I do. My business partner, Jacob Raymo whose hard work and willingness to continually improve and learn is like nothing I’ve ever see before. There is for sure no PHC without him. I also like to mention two other people. Jason Funk for giving me an opportunity at a growing company that showed me what a great culture can do for a company and its employees. And finally Dean Seger for mentoring me and teaching me different ways to approach and solve problems.
