We had the good fortune of connecting with Nakia Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nakia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

The most important factor behind my success is my peace. Being able to keep a level head, and safe guard my mental space, I afford myself the opportunity to accomplish more by simply being able to think clearly.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

For me work is synonymous to passions! I have spent a large amount of my life “working” doing things I had to do in an effort to get to place to do what I want to do – and that is my motto! You do what you have to so one day you can do what you want to. I have always been a “go getter” / self-motivated individual. I believe one thing that has set me apart is that I never waste time waiting for things to happen. I am always encouraged to make things happen. I am sure this mentality is derived from having an off/on again parent household. Living with many relatives, groups homes & foster homes convinced me that I needed to take care of me. I am excited to be me! I am excited that God has put me in many positions to learn & grow. You can never get to if you don’t go through! Nothing has been easy. If it were, I’d probably be less appreciative. My spirituality, my ambitions & my children are my guide. This is how I endure obstacles. Having the vision to see the end result and how it will effect my life, my family is my motivation. I am results driver! I used to be a person that looked out for everyone else, after many heartbreaks, and short-term relationships, you learn you can’t be anything for anyone until you learn how to be everything for yourself. What does that mean you ask? I had to learn self-love. I’ve learned to love me: what makes me happy, what do I love to do, what am I passionate about? My story for the world is love yourself, work your passion, live in purpose – on purpose and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’d immediately take a friend to my home to enjoy the peace it brings. This gives us the opportunity to think, plan and make informed moves. My friend and I would enjoy a few restaurants as I have a few favorites. We’d hit camelback mountain for its beauty and the infamous Elements restaurant! The chefs are amazing! The view and the atmosphere is breathtaking. We would then visit some of the landmarks like the Biltmore resort for massages and poolside fun! Visiting the poetry scene is always fun. However, for me private gatherings with a chef and other friends is always a go – and we can do that at my place – “The Office”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I’d like to dedicate this Shout Out to those that have aided me in my endeavors: My daughter Terria (TaeDoe Baby) for allowing me to tell her story through film; My Friend & Film Partner Phoebe for always always helping me make things happen; I’d like to thank my best friend Mr. Derek Tresvant for being supportive & genuine! Much love to Earl “DMX” Simmons, may he RIP. Earl was a true friend and confidant!  My niece Tahanee for just showing up and showing out all of the time for whatever I need; My son Al for always being there when I need him; & last but not least my son Paris for sharing me with the world.
