We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Salisbury and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?

When I opened Modern Yoga, work life balance did not exist. The most import part of establishing a good balance is creating a great team around you and treating them well. I have had the same manager for the past 5 years and could not run my yoga studio without her.

What should our readers know about your business?

Modern Yoga was founded on the philosophy that yoga is for everyone; if you can breathe you can do yoga.  Initially we were successful because of our yoga teachers and their unique following, but nothing could prepare us for what Covid did to the fitness industry. Less than 24 hours after the first shutdown we transitioned our classes to online and there was a lot of trial and error. I’m honestly grateful for the past 18 months, we have only come out of the pandemic stronger, unlike many fitness studios in The Valley. I am proud to say we have one of the best online offerings I’ve seen. We have an entire production room that was custom created by our longtime student and friend Richard Taylor, an award winning producer of Taylor Media Group. Our goal was to create a live yoga studio experience from anywhere in the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My favorite happy hour spot is The Mick Brassiere. I love to host my friends, whether it be a night out to Galla or pit tickets to a country concert. I love to start the night with an espresso martini and finish it with a glass of Veuve! If I had an entire week with friends we’d end up in Telluride or a resort in Cabo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My mentor and biggest supporter is Patty Callahan, owner of True Hot Yoga North Scottsdale. I worked for Patty about 12 years ago when I was in college. She has taught me so many things over the years from business to life lessons,  but the greatest gift she has given me is her unwavering support.
