We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Sartori and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
After a client session this morning, I said to myself, “And THAT is why I do what I do.” I felt clear, confident, on point and ready to keep going.

I love feeling that way. But it isn’t always so.

Sometimes I feel drained, incompetent, clueless about what I’m doing and ready to throw in the towel.

As an entrepreneur, I live very closely with the question of, “Should I keep going or should I go ahead and give up?”

I think it is a question that we, as humans, all dance with, at different points in our lives. Those points tend to be where we are leaning into something edgy, personal, and exposing.

Entrepreneurs, by nature, are people who go out on a limb and declare they have something to offer the world that is unique and personal. That is a vulnerable position to take, which explains why we live so closely with the question of continuing on versus throwing in the towel.

I believe the question rises out of our human wiring for survival: If I continue {doing this thing}, am I more or less likely to survive? Our impulse is to survive. It just is.

Some people sense that they will not survive (i.e. FAIL), and they are likely to react by quitting and giving up. They hope to save face and limit pain. They are driven by fear failing.

Others may feel the impending FAILURE and fight hard – they keep going regardless of the cost – to prove they are survivors. They hope to save face and limit pain. They are driven by fear of failing.

In the end, both are hustling to survive. Both approaches are hoping to save face and limit pain. Both are driven by fear.

So I’ll let you in on a secret: YOU ARE SURVIVING.

It’s true. Think of all the things you have done in life: that were challenging, edgy, exposing…and here you are! In one piece, LIVING. You are even able to recount where you have been, which means you have conscious awareness of the greater trajectory of your life.

I’m gonna let you in on another secret: FAILURE is a faulty notion that we have all been disillusioned by. Failure is a human construct, not an eternal reality. I mean, you can keep believing in failure, but then you will just continue being driven by fear. And nothing I say will matter to you anyways.

IF you are curious about what it might be like to approach your life and work NOT from fear, the invitation is to increase your awareness of your impulse to ask the question {should I keep going or should I give up?} and your impulse to react.

As soon as you notice, with out doing anything, you have activated your ability to be discerning. This is a strategy that humans use to not just survive, but to thrive.

From this place, step back and witness what is going on, that prompted you to ask the question.

Notice the emotions that come up, the storylines, the fears. Let them exist, without having to react.

Then, ask yourself, “Is it true?” Ask it of every story line, every fear.
It might be true. It might not be true.

But until you are consciously aware of the subconscious impulse to hustle to survive, you will struggle to make a grounded and clear decision about your next step.

In the end, if you are willing to slow down and be with your own humanity, you’ll reach a place within you that KNOWS what your next right step is. It knows in an inarguable, hustle-free, no fear way. Does it call for courage, absolutely. Does it call for patience, yup. But it will never lead you astray.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Exercise Your Soul is in the business of Personal Growth and Transformation. As an Embodiment & Wholeness Coach, I guide Soul Seeks to find their way home: To live into their fullest expression, to know the truth of their goodness and wholeness, and live in an empowered from the inside out.

I have called myself an “Accidental Entrepreneur” and acknowledge that I am where I am as a result of listening to and following my intuition. I believes in the Basic Goodness of all people and that when we accept this and cultivate Basic Trust in Life and ourselves, we have the opportunity to be self-realized.

It has not been easy. It will not be easy, always. And that is okay. I am committed to stretching my edges and continuing to grow and develop in a way that is ever-spiraling up. I am passionate about creating and welcoming other hearts to do the same. Exercise Your Soul makes a difference by promoting deeper, wider healing and sending a powerful ripple of love into the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After a great hike up Pinnacle Peak, we would brunch at Snooze over in Kierland. Evening drinks at Sorsa Wine Bar (because The Gallagher is THE. BEST.).
Afternoon hang out pool side. Perhaps somewhere fancy, like the Princess, or perhaps just at my house – that is actually where I think the most fun, interesting, and exciting people are located! 😉

We would definitely cruise downtown for the Saturday Market action.
Depending on what shows are happening, we would checkout The Cresent Ballroom or The Nash (support local! Support Jazz!).

Just for a taste…

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I LOVE THIS! It is all about interdependence. It is only through our interactions with each other – where we allow ourselves to be seen and heard and see and hear others – that we are able to grow into our fullest potential. YES!

I would like to thank:

Lee and Britta Eskey, of COR (www.corexperience.com) who have been dear teachers for my own Personal Growth and Transformation process. They invited me to explore my edges and breathe into them SO THAT I can live into my fullness and potential. Now I support others to do that as well.

David and Cheryl Paulovich, my parents, who have been incredible role models for riding the waves of the human condition, living a life of service to others and expanding self-love and compassion in powerful ways.

Megan Metcalf – my first client, back in 2018, and my biggest fan. She believed in me during all my own points of “Should I keep going or just give up?” We need cheerleaders who can remind us of what is true, when we can’t quite see it for ourselves.

The tricky relationships of life, where I’ve gotten to practice listening to my own wisdom rise up and discern for myself what the right next step is.
