We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah McLeod and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There were a lot of reasons that I wanted to strike out on my own. I wanted the autonomy to make decisions that could really dramatically impact my professional growth and the growth of an organization. I also wanted to challenge myself personally to take on something that felt big and scary at first, but turned out to be one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done in my life outside of building my family. But in terms of why I chose this industry in particular, working at a healthcare marketing agency was also an area I was passionate about—I really like being part of a sector that helps so many people.
What should our readers know about your business?
We’re a healthcare marketing agency totally devoted to serving large, national healthcare and health IT organizations. I really enjoy this level of specialization because it has helped me gain a lot of deep knowledge of this sector. Healthcare is quite varied and complex, from health insurance plans to health IT and pharmaceuticals. So the expertise I’ve acquired along my professional career really helps me better serve our diverse client base. I receive great satisfaction from helping our clients solve problems—from connecting with C-suite buyers through media relations to optimizing their lead generation through content marketing. And working at a healthcare marketing agency is never boring! Our primary challenge has been around staffing and growth. We’ve stayed very busy, especially as a result of COVID-19, and finding great people, who can acquire this same level of knowledge while multi-tasking, managing so many different projects and priorities, is difficult. But we’ve recently opened an agency office in Nashville and added new team members, so it’s been something we’re getting better at. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist so letting some things go, so I can hand off the day-to-day coordination, allowing me to be more strategic, is a big area of growth for me as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hike Camelback Mountain followed by eating at Wildflower!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family who has been patient with me as I’ve built my business!
