We had the good fortune of connecting with Skye Halliday Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skye, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business is SkyeFit Nutrition . I offer dedicated one on one nutrition coaching for clients to help create customized programs to help clients reach their health and fitness goals, all while keeping kindness towards their body at the forefront. After I’d first had my macros calculated by a coach in 2016, my eyes were opened to just how little I knew about what my body needed nutrition wise. I was training hard and severely under eating. This was due to years of diet culture messaging teaching me as a woman that carbs would make me gain weight, and that calories should be as few as possible. A Macro coach opened my eyes to how eating enough calories and protein not only would give me the physique I wanted, but would keep my body healthy and strong. The chronic dieting and “smaller” mindset was no way to live my life. The shift was life changing and I wanted to share that with other women. I started my macro nutrition coaching business to help other people better understand what their body needed, empower them to be strong and healthy, and encourage them to find a sustainable lifestyle with nutrition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting out in the fitness and nutrition industry is never easy, because it’s a saturated market. I knew it would take awhile to build credibility and establish myself. I started out in 2017 by getting my nutrition coaching certification and had no clients. I was living in New Jersey with my then boyfriend, now husband, and had no network. I threw myself into education. I told myself if I was going to be a coach, I’d be the best, most educated coach I could be. I wanted to set myself apart in the industry by showing my clients that long term, sustainable, lifestyle change was possible without crazy diets, misery, and shame. I as a coach believe the connection between physical health and mental health isn’t separable. I wanted my clients to know I was there to support them in how they wanted to eat, live, and train and we could make healthy tweaks together. The fitness and nutrition world can often be a harsh place of judgement, and I wanted to my clients to lead with kindness towards their bodies first.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start with taking a friend to BODI so she could join a class with me, the best workout in Scottsdale! We’d then head to Kaleidoscope Juice for smoothies. I’d love to then take her mountain biking out in the Wild Horse trails by my home. I’d take her out to dinner at Toca Madera for some tacos and spicy margs,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Lenny Weiner my OG macro coach! He and the coaching staff at Performance360 in San Diego helped me to learn how to track macros, properly nourish myself, and how to train. It encouraged me to follow my passion in fitness, which is the reason why I started my business and why I get to do what I love, working at Scottsdale BODI.
