We had the good fortune of connecting with Trent Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trent, how do you define success?
By accomplishing your set goals and achievements that make you happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Trent, and I offer Guitar Lessons in the Casa Grande Az area.

I’ve been playing guitar for a just about 19 years. First learning the guitar, all I wanted was to play my favorite songs and write songs with my friends, I was always excited to learn something new. Once I did, I’d show it to my friends. Starting in junior high and continuing it throughout my early adulthood, I offered guitar lessons, but nothing too serious, mainly just to my friends or family.

Fast forward to the Pandemic, I was in and out of work due to health issues. Struggling to make ends meet working 2 jobs I faced a back injury that put me out of work at a job that I was brand new at. Unable to get any assistance from family, work, unemployment / Disability, I knew that I had to find a way to provide for my family. I am limited to what I am physically able to do which was a challenge for me because prior to my injury I have a background of management & distribution so my work ethic is at a constant “Go Go Go Go” that was definitely a set back.

I took a leap of faith and started to offer private guitar lessons in my hometown and little by little I was getting more and more students. I’ve been teaching guitar full-time for a little over one year. It’s a great feeling knowing that not only can I do something that I enjoy that provides for my family, I get to help someone learn how to play music. Music is such an important thing and playing the guitar has saved my life on a couple different occasions. Exposing children to music is a gift that lasts a lifetime.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends are musicians, like myself. We would definitely spend the weekend revolving around instruments and potentially loud music.

Definitely hit up some music stores & pawn shops, you can find some really nice second hand instruments at a killer deal.

That’s more my scene. I’m a homebody, I like to stick to one or two places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Wife, Calla for always being supportive and constantly encouraging me to dream big. I love you more than you will ever know

I would also like to thank Bob from Casa Grande Alliance for giving me a great opportunity to start an after school program, teaching kids how to play the guitar in 5 weeks!
