I’ve never been a risk taker yet publishing books about heinous bigotry in my family felt like just that. I am vulnerable and scared imagining the kind of harsh criticism I could receive. There have been a few objections but as a whole people have accepted my story with kind reviews and “White Oak River: A Story of Slavery’s Secrets” is my best seller. It is a true story, as ugly and as beautiful as it is. Read more>>

Have you ever heard of the expression ” no risk, no reward?” There is a lot of truth in that statement. If you want to make a change in your life, you have to get uncomfortable. The bigger your risk, the more uncomfortable you will have to be. It took me a long time to realize that safety was just an illusion because nobody truly has any control. The only thing we can really control is our thoughts and actions. What can typically scare people about taking a risk is the element of the unknown that comes along with that risk. We were taught that the unknown is a dangerous place. I say it is a realm of infinite possibilities. Read more>>

I use to be afraid of risk but after suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2014 I had to learn how to really take calculated risk. When my injury happened I didn’t have health care coverage and it was devastating on all levels. I had a one percent chance of survival but I had know idea what survival would come to mean. My entire life was destroyed in that moment, even down to my self identity. I had no team of doctors to guide me since I had no medical coverage. Read more>>

Risk taking has played a vital role in my life and career over the past 2 years. During the beginning of the global pandemic in 2019 I had the opportunity to take a job as a multi media producer. Little did I Know this job would encompass a hell of a lot more than I expected. I went from working at Guitar Center as a sales associate to building LED video walls the size of billboards 50ft in the air while operating a scissor lift! Ohh and Hulu will be there tomorrow to screen their latest series to 100 people. I hope you’re a fast learner who works well under pressure. Read more>>

Taking risks is like driving a car– the car is my waking life and I am the driver with no sense of direction. When I think about risks, I think of my own journey to self discovery. I was like every other 20 something year old living in California trying to find her place in world, looking for a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I had a whole different life then, which consisted of a decent paying job, a cozy place to live, and many supportive and caring friends. Read more>>

Risk means a situation involving exposure to danger. Now that is true but I believe risks are necessary to understanding the process and your purpose in life. Taking risks teaches you and shows you exactly what you’re built for. It eliminates the uncertainty of yourself. Taking risks has played a huge role in my life since I was an infant. Risk gives me all of my real world experience(s). Being in places where one knows what to expect from you or committing to an objective/purpose outside of what’s familiar creates identity and character. Taking action brought me esteem, respect, happiness and separation. If I didn’t challenge myself I’d have to live up to other people’s expectations and projections. Read more>>

I believe without risk there is no success. . All the people I look up too have taken risks in their lives that led to them getting to where they are now. The biggest risk I have taken in my car thus far is to open a fashion Instagram account. I have realized it was a great decision and have done and met a lot of amazing people worldwide because of that decision. I have grown as a person and have become more social because I put myself out there. I believe failure doesn’t exist instead I think of it as lessons to improve yourself for next time. Read more>>

Life is about taking risks. “If you don’t take a risk, you’ll never know victory or defeat.” Risks can be so scary because we do not always know what could be on the other side of them.
