We asked folks we admire to share one piece of conventional advice that they disagree with.

“You need to have everything ready before you start a business.” The fun thing about starting your own business is all about learning as you go. I did not have 100% of what I needed when I opened, and that drove other business owners around me absolutely insane. Now should you have a plan? Sure. Don’t do paid advertising. The conversion rate, even with highly targeted advertising, is too unfavorable for the product I sell. Only if you’re starting out rich with marketing money to blow would I bother with paid advertising. In that case, with a large up-front investment dwarfing your revenue, there could be a long-term benefit. Read more>>

That you need to “pay your dues”. This will certainly upset some chefs and those who spent years working hard in kitchens to build themselves a wonderful career.
