We had the good fortune of connecting with Qadir Holloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Qadir, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the biggest factor behind my success is me being aware of who I am. By that I don’t just mean my background and where I’m from. It’s about my strengths and weaknesses and what I’m capable of. If anything a better term to bring this to light would be “Realistic”. How a lot of people approach this is different and its a process that is very critical. It takes having an understanding of your craft beyond what you alone build and knowing how to mold things in a direction that promotes your growth. So not only is it about being your own critic, but also being a USEFUL critic of yourself, one that can promote fundamentals and individuality in to something that matters and moves people.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I listen to different genres of music and take my time to understand what about the formula some of this artist use to express themselves in a way that many can vibe with. I’m excited about new music and new things honestly. Everything is a grind in its own way. It wasn’t exactly easy because when you’re your main motivator sometimes things can get a little difficult. I learned to keep growing and to trust myself, because I’m the one who got myself to where I am, and I’ll be the person to put myself where I am going. I don’t want anybody to know anything about me really. I’m just here because I feel the need to actualize what I believe in and what I’m capable of, because I know I can do it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to go to Hotpots, places to grab ramen and I like Ikes sandwiches.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ummmmm, that kind of is and isn’t difficult for me to put a finger on. I think my exposure to things like actual rap/Hip-hop from my father and different sub-genres of music from my mother might be somewhat part of that story. Even though that might be the start past a certain age I really had to go looking myself. I wanted a broader understanding of style, sound, and the drive behind what caused people to sit down and put their emotions on paper. SO shoutout to me for digging a littler deeper till things made a bit more sense!
