We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Elizabeth Fedrick, PhD, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Elizabeth, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
It is nearly impossible to choose only one factor behind the success of Evolve Counseling. There are so many crucial parts that have come together to contribute to a successful first year in business, including the help and support of my loved ones, the hard work and dedication of all the providers in our practice, as well as my own passion and drive to succeed. However, I believe one of the most significant factors that has contributed to our success is the culture of our practice. In spite of our education, licensure, and experiences in the mental health field, all of the providers at Evolve are human first and foremost. We strive for relatability and authenticity in our practice and believe that it is incredibly important for our clients to see us as people who they are able to connect with and relate to. Additionally, much thought has gone into our client’s experiences in office, from their time in the reception area, to their comfortability in sessions. Ensuring the culture of our office is warm, welcoming, and accepting of all, is crucial to our clients having a successful experience in therapy.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Evolve Counseling & Behavioral Health Services is a counseling private practice in Gilbert, AZ. We provide counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. We specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, and general personal improvement. We ensure to provide our clients with the essential tools and resources needed in order to obtain the healing and change they are seeking, as well as to maintain this transformation long-term. As mentioned earlier, the primary component that sets Evolve apart from others, is the culture of our office. We offer a very warm and inviting atmosphere and ensure that our clients feel welcomed and comfortable while in office. In addition, even though a counseling practice is rather serious by nature, our providers and staff love to laugh and have fun. This relaxed environment contributes to our clients feeling safe, comfortable, and at ease in a place that can at times be very difficult to attend. The other aspect that sets our practice apart is the level education, training, and experience that our providers bring into their therapeutic practices. The providers at Evolve are all incredibly passionate about the field of mental health and about ensuring their clients receive the quality help and tools that they need to heal. I got to where I am today business-wise as the result of many compounding factors. I had worked in the field as a mental health therapist in a variety of different settings over the years. Along the way I had dreamed of opening my own practice but thought of a whole plethora of excuses as to why I should take the safe route and stay working for someone else’s business. I was finally nudged enough by others to take the leap of faith to start my own practice. This was scary, yet exciting, and required that I found other providers who shared my vision and passion and who were brave enough to take the risk with me. This was a slow process at first, but over a few months we grew to a practice of six providers who all share the same enthusiasm and commitment for mental health and for providing a high level of care for all our clients. Starting my business and completing a successful first year was certainly not an easy process. There were many barriers along the way, some expected and some very unexpected. For example, the pandemic started a few months into our first year and this created a lot of uncertainty and fear as we were unsure how this would impact our business. We experienced a frightening decline in business at first, but were extremely fortunate that we are able to provide telehealth services, which kept us going. We were grateful that many of our clients continued to seek help, as well as very grateful that we received many additional clients during this time who we have had the opportunity to help and support through these uncertain times. I am also extremely appreciative for the Evolve team who stuck together through the chaos and fear, and who continued to show up day after day in the midst of the confusion and uncertainty to not only support our clients, but to also support each other. The lessons I have learned along the way is the importance of having a strong support system, as well as having a committed and loyal team. Whether facing a global pandemic or just navigating the day to day stressors of running a business, the team at Evolve is dedicated to remaining supportive and available for our clients and for each other, and this has been a huge life lesson when it comes to opening and operating a successful business. It is crucial to have the right people in your corner and I am extremely fortunate to know that I do. The thing that I would want the world to know about Evolve is that we are more than just a business. We are a team of individuals who genuinely share a passion and fervor for the work that we do and for the mental health field as a whole. We all care deeply about making a difference in our community and about providing hope and healing to every client we have the honor of working with.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, we would spend most of our time in Downtown Gilbert, but would start the day outdoors with a hike in this beautiful weather. We would start Saturday morning with a hike at South Mountain or a walk around the Riparian Preserve. We would then head over to Snooze in Downtown Gilbert for brunch and then spend the day shopping at San Tan Village. The afternoon would be spent at Postino in Downtown Gilbert, most certainly during happy hour, for wonderful wine, ambiance, and people watching.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person who deserves a great deal of credit and recognition in my story is my best friend, Richard. Richard has been my cheerleader, advocate, and biggest supporter for the better half of my life. He has been by my side through the challenges of my obtaining my doctorate and my licensure and was the one who had enough faith in me to suggest that I start this business. Richard has been a tremendous support and unending wealth of knowledge in regard to the business and marketing aspects of my business. He continues to provide inspiration, collaboration, and quite a bit of manual labor, to ensure we continue to run smoothly and successfully. I am forever grateful to have him by my side in business and in life.
