We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Freco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life’s a risk. Risks made me. There’s no better feeling than getting that return on whatever it is you’re betting on. But to be real every time I lose the comeback feels way better. You might be down bad for a little while, but you can’t beat yourself up over it. I feel like risks is what makes or breaks you in this game. You got to be willing to take chances, but you also got to figure out what your balance is. Being smart with your wins will help you through the lows. Nothing lasts forever so I’d rather take my chances while I’m here.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I pride myself on authenticity. Whether it be the raps, clothes, or videos. Everything you see is what I saw first. I know it sounds crazy but, I try not to try too hard. I like to keep it simple and familiar with what I knew growing up. To know there’s people out there who relate means the world. It trips me out. It makes me feel apart of something bigger than what I am. I feel as if I represent all the real homies. The older I get the more I reflect on the journey. I can feel the engine warming up, things are going to get serious. It isn’t and never was easy. I spent a whole pandemic trying to balance life, art, and business all at the same time. Coming out of it I didn’t know where the business would end up. I know a lot of folks can relate to this as well. But the only thing we can do is keep going, that’s all I did. If it’s anything I learned coming up it’s to trust my gut and go get whats yours by any means.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s no place like Arizona on a Sunday. My people know thats the day I like to get up get dressed and wash the whip. Soon as I get the G-Body we going to take it around the town. I mean, we did it in a bucket. Drive straight down Baseline from all the way East all the way to Central. If the weathers nice might have to stop at the Plaza and see if anything is going down. Got to stay hydrated might hit the corner store for a drink and some chips. When the night hits we going back to the East to hit some good Marisco’s. La Carreta Del Percheron in Mesa. If you don’t know now you do. I can’t believe I just blew up my spot like that haha enjoy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all my little homies. The new generation motivates me to be the best role model I possibly can. I ain’t perfect but I ain’t gonna lead you in the wrong direction either. Take the game and run with it.
