Meet Lora Van Tassel Md | Pediatrician and owner of Home Base Pediatrics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lora Van Tassel Md and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lora, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success at Home Base Pediatrics is my commitment to relationship-based care. Parents really feel like they are part of a team because they have direct access to me. No waiting on a phone tree or driving to the doctor’s office. I fully support my members by being available for texting, calls, telehealth and in-home care. I designed my practice to be convenient and to foster a true relationship. I’m the home run hero and provide in-home visits which means no overtime sitting in the doctor’s office. By visiting my patients in their homes, I’m able to build a deeper connection with families. The comfort of being cared for in the home provides personalization which ultimately leads to better decision-making and outcomes. It’s about understanding the unique needs, concerns, and lifestyle of each family. When families feel supported and informed, it’s a game-changer! They’re more likely to make healthy choices and advocate for their children’s well-being. This kind of care is truly transformative and is what sets my practice apart. By providing direct, accessible care, I aim to create a partnership where parents feel like they are an integral part of their child’s healthcare team. This trust allows us to have open and honest conversations about their child’s health, leading to better decision-making and outcomes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the first board-certified, fully mobile pediatric physician in the East Valley, I’m proud to offer a unique blend of convenience and comprehensive care. My practice provides home-based care and telemedicine, ensuring easy access to high-quality medical services. From same-day sick visits to well-child checks, sports physicals, and mental healthcare, I’m committed to meeting the diverse needs of families in our community.
As a mother of four, I understand firsthand the challenges of balancing childcare and healthcare appointments. My practice is designed to alleviate those burdens, offering the flexibility and comfort of in-home visits. And for a touch of convenience, I’m the only pediatrician in the area providing ear piercing services.
With years of experience as a local doctor, I’ve cultivated a deep passion for providing personalized care. My goal is to be more than just a healthcare provider; I want to be a trusted part of the team, supporting families every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After a morning of sports with my kids at Tumbleweed or Snedigar Park, we’d head to Ahwatukee for a coffee break and some conversation at Where U Bean – an iced coconut mocha or cubano goes great with the apple butter cake or pumpkin loaf. For lunch, we’ll grab a delicious burger at Brew’s Taphouse. And for my hike-loving friends, Usery Pass is always a great option to spend some time outdoors. To finish the day, we’ll enjoy a spicy dinner at Si Senor, complete with my favorite shredded beef stuffed sopapilla with green chile salsa. If a drink is needed to cool down the heat, I’d head to the Tipsy Cactus for a great selection of beers that my out of town guests would love!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m incredibly grateful for the success of my pediatrics practice, and I couldn’t have done it without the unwavering support of my husband and family as I dreamed up my perfect method of doctoring. Today, I recognize the crucial support of the amazing community I live in. The parents of families that I care for have been instrumental in spreading the word about my in-home pediatric care, and their trust and support have been invaluable. Their referrals and positive feedback have helped my practice grow and thrive. I’m truly honored to be able to serve this wonderful community and contribute to the well-being of the children in our area. Strong families grow strong communities and I am so proud to be a part of that.
