My favorite quote is: “Progress, not perfection”. I love this quote because when people believe they have to do something perfect, they often feel pressured and angry at themselves if they fall short of perfect. Life is all about progression and striving to improve. The journey should be enjoyable and showing progress in any way, deserves to be celebrated. Read more>>

I have two. The first is Jack London’s: “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” It’s something to remind me that inspiration/creativity is not a guarantee at any given time, but rather something to actively pursue and be aware of. The second is David Lynch’s: “My cow is not pretty, but it is pretty to me.” This quote has consistently helped me stay grounded during the creative process. When I feel as though I am making a decision not for myself, but instead because I think it’s something that would be well-received or popular, I think of these words and how most of the art we appreciate and love was created by artists being unapologetically themselves. Artists get into blocks because of self-doubt. ‘First-page fear’ or ‘blank canvas bafflement’ is rooted in having “no inspiration” which is really the fear of our ideas not being good enough. Time and time again, artists have claimed that the a-ha moments don’t exist, which is true and not true. Ideas for art don’t pop up out of anywhere but sprout from the soil of the mind and we must tend to it as artists. Keep the soil free of weeds and stones (distractions and blockages/hangups/fears), and must fertilize it with other art that fills us with bubbly ideas, feelings, and moods. Depending on how deep you dig, and how deep the roots of an idea go, the bigger and more magnificent of an idea comes to fruition. One of my favorite quotes I turn to when I feel out of ideas is by David Lynch, who says… “Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. Read more>>

My favorite quote of all time and a business motto I live by is “Do everything in love” “What’s love got to do with business?” You’re probably asking. The answer in my world is, EVERYTHING. Loving what you do is number one. The biggest thing of all. If you do not love what you do, how can you do everything in love? In my business, it’s not a “whats in it for me?” situation. I immediately get to lead with love. I get to make my clients feel loved, I get to spread love on my business page, I get to show kindness to people I’ve never met and can I just tell you how amazing it feels? I know for a lot- if not most of us, that it’s not always easy to act in love because there’s always the risk of being hurt. It’s definitely not easy. But the outcome is overwhelmingly incredible. Living in love and leading with love is one of the biggest keys to happiness in my opinion. It’s the key to abundance, It’s the key to inner peace, It’s the key to blessings. Everything that I do, can be done in love. I can apply makeup in love. Read more>>

Doria Dphrepaulezz | Painter and Poet

“Someday, somewhere -anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.” Pablo Neruda. Poetry is one of the most intimate modes of expression, and I love Neruda. I am a painter and a poet, Art is not just what I do it is profoundly who I am. No matter what road I choose to travel, I always try to maintain a balance of creativity because it is the fire that fuels my life. This quote keeps me connected to world. I remind myself every single day that happiness is the best pathway forward. No matter what obstacles I face. I always remember, and hold close to my heart, the fundamental belief that my faith grounds me. I believe that the quest for a better and happier tomorrow is priceless. I believe that we should be brave and life should be lived. Read more>>

When I was in high school I remember seeing this motivational poster on the wall in science class stating, “You can’t choose your circumstances but you can choose to overcome them.” Ever since then I have chosen to live my life by that. Regardless of how tough times may have been for me I knew I had to do something in order to change my situation. Reading this quote every day in class gave me hope that I could get through anything if I tried hard enough. Read more>>

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” ~Albert Einstein~ To me this means we’re their is thoughts comes imagination . And with imagination comes dreams brought to reality. So depending on what thought or we pre imagined will become our future show in life. We create life as our own. What I love about this is that it’s true and it reminds us and allows us to live a little and dream big. Read more>>

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”-This quote always gives me pause. It’s a reminder for me to check myself. To check my thoughts and my frequency. I have this quote hanging up on multiple mirrors throughout my home. For me, it’s a reminder to reset, and think on good things. I start my day by writing out at least 5 things I’m grateful for. I challenge myself to pen my victories, especially the small ones that build momentum, throughout the day in an effort to keep my heart in a good place. I feel that coming from a place of gratitude allows me to stay in a unique pocket of humility and grace. Read more>>

One of my favorite quotes is one by Henry Miller: “To make living itself an art… that is the goal.” This quote is very much a philosophy for living as an artist; it’s a reminder that you can gather inspiration from just about any situation. It’s common for me to go through dry spells when I’m not being called to create. These ‘silent periods’ used to scare me into thinking they reflected a deficiency of sorts; however, this quote changed my perspective. I’ve now given a name to the dry spells (‘silent periods’) to make them a bit more poetic for myself. I now use that time to shift my focus from expressing myself to listening to the world around me. I place my focus on absorbing information by reading books, listening to music/podcasts, and by listening intently to the people I interact with. I feel everything as deeply as possible. I pay attention to the fact that I’m alive. I recharge my battery. This way, when I’m back to creating, I have much more stored within me to express, and I never let go of seeing life as an art. Seeing life as a practice for awareness. Read more>>
