Joining the U.S. Peace Corps in 2013 was probably the single most important decision I made that contributed to the success I have today. I feel like most people view success as the amount of schooling one has gone through, or the amount of followers one has on social media, the amount of money one has in their bank account or even in their investments, or even who their alma mater is. For me, joining the Peace Corps allowed me to get scrappy and to be incredibly resourceful. This skill formed the tenacity I have with all the projects and business ventures i’ve created thus far. The most important decision I made that continues to contribute to my success is to not be paralyzed by the fear of judgement. Not everyone is going to like or appreciate my work, but that is no reason to stop creating. I create because I need to, I want to, I love to. By not seeking approval from others in what I do I’ve been able to stay true to the brand and message I envisioned and have made so many connections with those that my work does resonate with. To never sacrifice quality. Last year, lobster fishing drastically declined, and there were times where we could not get fresh product. I was offered frozen, but I did not want to sacrifice the integrity of our lobster rolls for a sub-par product. Even though it meant cancelling some events until fresh product was available, it was worth it because we kept our integrity.
